The invisibility cloak, as ultimate illusion, has recently attracted great interests in many fields due to its mysterious, fascinating and exciting characteristics. The concept of spatial cloak is not only extended to spatial illusion and mosaic from the perspective of enhancement, but also extended to the time domain and the temporal cloak is created. The extended cloak contains hiding full of object and events, and also contains spatial illusion and hiding certain part of object. However, there is still lack of research in temporal illusion and hiding certain part of events.
Based on these problems above, the Professor Jianji Dong’s team introduce and experimentally demonstrate a flexible temporal illusion at telecommunication data rate in optical fiber communication system. The temporal illusion can not only transform an event to another event as expected, but also mask the event with high-level signal, providing a novel method to conceal the confidential information. The output temporal waveforms of a RZ, dark RZ and NRZ event are successfully transformed into that of any above modulation format event and high-level signal at different illusion bits and mosaic bits at a data rate of 5 Gb/s, respectively. These works offer us new perspectives on illusion optics for falsifying event rather than object, which has potential applications in secure communication, data encryption and other military applications.
