From May 16 to 18, 2023, the 2nd BRICS Workshop on Biophotonics, co-organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Saratov State University of Russia, University of São Paulo of Brazil, Manipal Academy of Higher Education of India and University of Johannesburg of South Africa, was successfully held. Professor Zhu Dan from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics and Advanced Biomedical Imaging Facility served as the co-chair of the program committee. Associate Professor Li Dongyu from the School of Optical and Electronic Information served as the secretary of the China side. The workshop attracted more than 60 experts and scholars from BRICS countries and presented 13 plenary reports, 34 invited reports, and 18 oral reports.
Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was held in a combination of online and offline modes, and interacted in real-time through the Zoom online conference platform. The workshop focused on the latest progress and future development direction of biophotonics, covering various frontier fields such as Optical Interactions in Tissue and Cells, Biomedical Spectroscopy, Microscopy and Imaging, Advanced Optical Techniques for Clinical Medicine, Multimodal Biomedical Imaging, Nanobiophotonics, Photonic Therapeutics, Diagnostics and Instrumentations, Tissue Optical Clearing and Drug Delivery and Antimicrobial and Antiviral Phototherapies.\
Due to the time difference, the international workshop was scheduled from the afternoon of China time to midnight, and lasted for three days of reports and exchanges. The atmosphere was very warm. The workshop provided a platform for experts in the field of biophotonics from BRICS countries to showcase their achievements, exchange experiences and enhance friendship. It helped to promote international cooperation and exchange, and advance the development and application of biophotonics.
