WUHAN, China (April 20, 2016) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 111 was successfully held in Auditorium A101 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the morning of April 20.
The inherent versality of organic compounds promises their wide applications in photonics and electronics. The 1D nanostructures can efficiently confine and directionally transport photons, serving as active optical waveguides and microcavities. The photophysical and photochemical transistions bring unique functionalities by the generation of excitons (strongly coupled electron-hole pairs). The stable exciton-photon coupling at room temperature features the organic photonic materials and devices from their inorganic couterparts. The investigation of light-matter interaction can also helps in overcoming the challenges in organic electronics and opto-electronics.
Prof. Jiannian Yao earned his Ph. D. degrees in chemistry from the University of Tokyo (with Prof. Akira Fujishima), Japan 1993. In 1995, he became an associate professor at the Institute of Photographic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), where he was promoted as a professor in 1996. Then he moved to the Institute of Chemistry, CAS, in 1999 and served as the institute Vice Director from 2000 to 2008. Prof. Yao has published more than 350 papers in scientific journals, including Nature, Chem. Soc. Rev., Acc. Chem. Res., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Mater., Chem. Commun., etc. His papers have been cited over 6000 times. Prof. Yao had been a member of the editorial board of <Journal of Materials Chemistry> (2007-2009) and <New Journal of Chemistry> (2011-2012). Since 2007, he served as associate editor-in-chief for <Acta Chimica Sinica>, <Acta Physico-Chimica Sinica> and <Imaging Science and Photochemistry>. Prof. Yao is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2005, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U. K., since 2008. Since 2008, he also served as the Vice President of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He was elected as the Chairman of the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) in 2010. Prof. Yao made a great effort to improve the international relationship of CCS for global communication and development of chemical science.
