Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum 80: From Glass to Google

Time:Jun 13, 2019

WUHAN, China (May 8, 2014) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 80 was successfully held in Auditorium A101 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the afternoon of May 8.

The creator of the technology that underpins the internet: there is little worth knowing about lasers and optical fibre technology and that David does not know. Meet him and find out how your life would be very different indeed without engineers and researchers like David and his team, who help us to meet today’s greatest technology challenges.

Professor Sir David N. Payne, director of the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of photonics research with 40 years of research experience. Prof. Payne’s work spans diverse areas of photonics, from telecommunications and optical sensors to nanophotonics and optical materials. In peer’s opinion, he makes crucial contributions in almost all optical fiber technology, which makes a direct impact on the world’s development and popularity of optical communication technology. Prof. Payne was knighted in the 2013 New Year Honors for services to photonics research and applications. He is a fellow of Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, Russian Academy of Sciences and Norwegian Academy of Science, and he is the Chairman of the Marconi Society, and a fellow of International Physics Optical Society IET, IOP and OSA.
