【JIOHS】Call for Papers:Special Issue on Two-Dimensional Materials and Their Bio-photonic Applications

Time:Dec 25, 2019

Call for Papers

Special Issue on
Two-Dimensional Materials and Their Bio-photonic Applications

Emerging two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted considerable attention on applications in electronics, optoelectronics, batteries as well as biomedicine in recent years, due to their unique physicochemical properties. With the intrinsic fluorescence and photoacoustic properties, 2D materials have been used as biological imaging agents, which are useful in cancer diagnosis. Due to the near-infrared (NIR) optical absorbance, large extinction coefficient as well as high catalytic efficacy, 2D materials-based photothermal and photodynamic therapies have achieved excellent anti-tumor therapeutic efficacy. Two-dimensional materials are endowed with ultra-large specific areas for efficient surface chemical modification and drug loading, because of the puckered layer structure, and have been widely explored as a robust NIR-light controlled drug delivery nanoplatform. More importantly, many works show that the cytotoxicity and biological toxicity of 2D materials are inappreciable, and many 2D materials are degradable in vivo into nontoxic phosphates and phosphonates, therefore making them suitable for clinical applications. Especially, there are many works on the integrated treatments that are both diagnostic and therapeutic, i.e., theranostics.

Despite decades of technical development, 2D materials are still in its infancy for biomedical applications, and 2D materials-based bio-photonic applications still face some challenges in practical applications. This special issue calls for the experts in the field of 2D materials and their bio-photonic applications to discuss the most recent breakthroughs and the potential impacts in related research fields. Original research papers and review articles are both welcome. Manuscripts will be internationally peer-reviewed. Topics we specifically seek to cover include but are not limited to the following:

  • Novel methods for the preparation of 2D materials

  • Advanced bioimaging and biosensor technology based on 2D materials

  • Advanced therapeutic technology based on 2D materials including but not limited to cancer treatment. Other diseases such as antibacterial, brain disease, neurological diseases, cardiovascular diseases and obesity disease are highly advocated.

  • Other promising bio-photonic applications of 2D materials
