Call for Papers: In cells,bio-chemical reactions take place with individual enzymes, DNA, RNA and other macromolecules which are not synchronized and not heterogeneously distributed. Single molecules measurements need to be performed to unravel the dynamics or instantaneous states concealed in bulk experiments. In the last thirty years, single molecules manipulation and detection in optical ways draw most attentions due to great sensitivity, low noise and high spatial & temporal resolution. In 1986, optical trapping of single particle was firstly studied by Arthur Askin. In 1996, single molecule Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) was firstly reported by Taekip Ha. In 2006, single molecule localization based super-resolution microscopy was invented by Eric Betzig et al. Nowadays these single molecule techniques or combination of them are extensively used to study the function, structure and interactions of individual molecules in vitro and in vivo. This special issue calls for the experts in the technique development of optical single molecule methods and their application for bio-macromolecules and cells. Original research papers and review articles are both welcome. Manuscripts will be internationally peer-reviewed. Topics we specifically seek to cover include:
· Single molecule manipulation with Optical tweezers;
· Single molecule FRET and lift time measurement;
· Single molecule localization and tracking;
· Super resolution fluorescent imaging;
· Combined single molecule manipulation and fluorescent imaging;
· Other optical methods for manipulation and detection of single molecules.
