The Chinese-Russian Workshop on Biophotonics and Biomedical Optics, as the important part of Saratov Fall Meeting (SFM), was held online on September 26-27, 2022. The workshop was organized by Saratov State University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hainai University and other institutions. Prof. Valery V. Tuchin from Saratov State University and Professor Dan Zhu from Wuhan National Laboratory of Optoelectronics are chairing the workshop. Nearly 40 experts and scholars from China and Russia participated the conference and gave invited reports. The experts and scholars invited by Prof. Dan Zhu include not only outstanding representatives and senior scientists in the field of biomedical photonics, but also high-level talents newly returned to China in recent years.
The bilateral workshop brought together both Russian and Chinese scientists, engineers, and clinical researchers from a variety of disciplines engaged in applying optical science, photonics, and imaging technologies to problems in biology and medicine. Topics covered include optical interactions in tissue and cells, biomedical spectroscopy, microscopy and imaging, advanced optical techniques for clinical medicine, multimodal biomedical imaging, nano/biophotonics, tissue optical clearing and drug delivery, clinical biophotonics, etc.
Due to the COVID-19, this bilateral workshop was conducted online, the participants from both sides communicated via ZOOM. Due to the time difference, the bilateral workshop was scheduled from noon (also the morning of Saratov time) in China to the evening (the evening of Saratov time). It lasted for two days for reporting and exchanging ideas. The atmosphere was very warm.
Prof. Dan Zhu was also invited as the Plenary Speaker at SFM to give a plenary speech titled “Tissue optical clearing imaging: from in vitro to in vivo”.
In 1998, Prof. Valery V. Tuchin of Saratov State University first visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Since then, the two sides have established long-term communication and cooperation. In 2006, the two sides jointly organized the first Chinese-Russian workshop on biomedical photonics. Since then, it has been held alternately in Russia and China, and 10 times have been held so far. Through this meeting, Chinese and Russian experts had a further understanding of each other, which will play a positive role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between scientists of the two countries in the future.
