WUHAN, China (May 31, 2017) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 123 was successfully held in Auditorium A101 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the morning of May 31. Prof. Siyuan Yu from Sun Yat-sen University delivered an exciting talk entitled Photonics Integration: Main Technologies and Challenges. Dr. Jian Wang, from Optoelectronic Devices and Integration Division of WNLO chaired the forum. Prof. ChangSheng Xie, Deputy Director of WNLO, awarded Prof. Yu the forum medal.
For the development of advanced photonic devices, photonic integration is fundamental to the enhancement of the functionalities and performance, as well as the reductions of size, power consuntion, and costs. Various passive and active photonic integrated circuits. Due to the incompatibility between active and passive functions at the material level, teh main challenge facing photonic integration is the integration of active and passive functions on the same chip with high quality and scalability. This talk will discuss fundamental factoring limiting the scalability of photonic integration, and will discuss the choice of substrate materials, active-passive material integration, device fabrication and integration techniques, and testing aimed at different applications.
