WUHAN, China (May 19, 2017) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 122 was successfully held in Auditorium A101 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the afternoon of May 19. Prof. Chun-Sing Lee from City University of Hong Kong delivered an exciting talk entitled Similarities between organometallic halide Perovskite & Conventional organic semiconductors. Prof. Bin Hu, from Optoelectronic Devices and Integration Division of WNLO chaired the forum. Dr. Song Xia, Chair of WNLO committee, awarded Prof. Lee the forum medal.
Organometallic halide Perovskite has become the most studied photovoltaic materials in the past few years. It in fact shares many common properties with conventional organic semiconductors. In particular, interesting properties of Perovskite such as ferroelectric properties, unusually high ambipolar conductivities etc have been observed in charge transfer complexes formed between certain donor and acceptor molecules. One reason for the high performance of organometallic halide Perovskite is its ability to form free carriers instead of bound excitons upon photon excitation. This property is also recently observed in some small molecules. These new observations enable new designs of device architecture for enhanced solar cell performance.
Prof Chun-Sing Lee obtained his BSc and PhD degrees from the University of Hong Kong in 1987 and 1991 respectively. He then furthered his research career in the University of Birmingham of UK with the support from a Croucher Foundation Fellowship. He jointed the faculty of the City University of Hong Kong in 1994 and is currently a Chair Professor in materials science. He co-founded the Center Of Super-Diamond and Advanced Films (COSDAF) in 1998 and is now the Center’s Director. Prof Lee’s current research interests include organic electronics devices and nanomaterials for energy, environmental and biomedical applications.
