WUHAN, China (May 19, 2017) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 121 was successfully held in Auditorium A101 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the morning of May 19. Prof. Ning Hua Zhu from Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered an exciting talk entitled Directly Modulated Semiconductor Lasers. Dr. Jian Wang, from Optoelectronic Devices and Integration Division of WNLO chaired the forum. Prof. QingMing Luo, vice-president of HUST, awarded Prof. Zhu the forum medal.
Directly modulated semiconductor lasers have been widely used in optical communications and microwave photonics systems. This talk will introduce the concept of the directly modulated semiconductor lasers and their applications in optical communications including digital and analog transmission, WDM system, and coherent fiber or free space communications. Finally the development and prospects will be discussed.
