WOYF 24: Laser additive nano-manufacturing & ultrasensitive sensing

Time:Jul 4, 2019

Speaker:Dr.Chenglong Zhao, University of Dayton, USA

Invited by:Prof. Xiong Wei

Time:11:00, July 5, 2019
Venue: A101

Biography:

Dr.Chenglong Zhao joined the University of Dayton as an assistant professor on August 15, 2015 with a joint appointment in the Department of Physics and Department of Electro-Optics and Photonics. He received his Ph.D. from Peking University (Beijing, China) in 2011. Then, he worked at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Pennsylvania State University. He is leading the Nano-photonic & Nano-manipulation Lab, which is dedicated to developing cutting-edge nanotechnologies for additive nano-manufacturing, reconfigurable optical devices, and ultra-sensitive bio-sensing. Prof. Zhao has authored and co-authored over 30 journal papers including Nature Communications, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, Nanoscale etc. His research findings have been widely reported by Science Daily, Physics News, National Science Foundation, Science Codex, Science News, Nano Werk, etc. He has obtained multiple fundings from such as National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

Abstract:

Additivemanufacturing, also known as 3D printing, has already been used at the macroscales by engineers and designers for the rapid prototyping and low-volume production. Unfortunately, such rapid prototyping techniques are yet to be developed for the manufacturing at the nanoscales. In this talk, I will introduce two additive nano-manufacturing methods that are developed in our lab. The structures manufactured by these methods are used for ultrasensitive sensing.
