WUHAN, China (Jun 24, 2021) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 178 was successfully held in Auditorium C112 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the afternoon of Jun 24. Prof. Zhang Zhigang from Peking University delivered an inspiring speech entitled GHz Femtosecond Laser: Expanding Application Areas. Prof. Wang Jian from WNLO chaired the forum and awarded Prof. Zhang Zhigang the forum medal.
The report began with the brief introduction of femtosecond optical frequency comb. Prof. Zhang Zhigang introduced the technical innovation of GHz femtosecond fiber laser, and its applications in laser frequency comb and major scientific engineering and industrial processing fields. Based on the experience of his research group in developing GHz repetition rate femtosecond fiber laser for 10 years, he introduced the application prospect of GHz repetition laser in numerous fields, e.g., calibration of astronomical spectral, low noise microwave extraction, coherent pulse synthesis andlaser micromachine. A fruitful discussion was followed by Prof. Zhang Zhigang and the audience from WNLO.
Zhang Zhigang is a professor of Department of Electronics in Peking University and “Cheung Kong Scholar” Professor. Prof. Zhang received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Beijing University of Technology in 1982 and 1984 respectively. In 1992, he received the PhD degree from Monash university in Australia.
His main research is frequency comb based on high repetition rate fiber femtosecond laser, fiber long-distance frequency transfer and time synchronization technology, time-domain pulse coherent synthesis technology. He has won the Ministry of education and the national science and technology progress award. At present, he is currently in charge of the key projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Joint fund and international cooperation projects.
