WUHAN, China (May 20, 2021) - Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum No. 177 was successfully held in Auditorium C112 at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) in the morning of May 20. Researcher Meng Qingbo from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered an inspiring speech entitled Thin film solar cells: opportunities and challenges. Prof. Han Hongwei from WNLO chaired the forum and awarded Researcher Meng Qingbo the forum medal.
Aiming at various natural energy resources on the earth, the forum reported by Prof. Meng Qingbo drew a brief sketch of the development of solar cells and mainly introduced the opportunities and challenges of thin film solar cells. From preparation of material and device, material properties, and characterization methods, thin film solar cell with superior stability are introduced, such as perovskite and copper zinc tin sulfur (Selenium) thin film solar cells. Besides, from the aspects of the interface engineering, the all-inorganic cells and carbon electrode, he discussed how to prepare solar cells with high efficiency, high stability, and low cost. In addition, he specifically introduced the main characterization test technology of solar cells.
Meng Qingbo received a bachelor's degree in physics from Jilin University in 1987 and a doctorate degree in 1997 from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 1999 to 2002, he served as a special researcher (STAFellow) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency, a full-time researcher of the University of Tokyo and the Kanagawa Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. He won the National Outstanding Youth Fund in 2007, the special government allowance of the State Council in 2010, the President's Award of Tokyo University of Science in 2011, and was selected as one of the 100 Leading Talents of Science and Technology Beijing in 2013.In 2014, he was the academic leader of the innovation group of the National Foundation of China. He is currently a professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a doctoral supervisor, and the director of the Clean Energy Center of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
