On the morning of 9th October 2023, invited by Prof. Peixiang Lu, Executive Deputy Director of WNLO, Prof. Chengyin Wu from Peking University visited WNLO and gave a talk on “Femtosecond Strong Laser and Matter Interaction: From Gas Phase to Solid State” at the 194th Wuhan Optoelectronics Forum.
First, Prof. Pengfei Lan, Director of the Ultrafast Optics Laboratory of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, gave a warm introduction to Prof. Wu, including his research interests and academic contributions. Then, Prof. Lu presented him with the forum medal, and the report officially began.
Prof. Wu first introduced the background of the ultrafast strong field physics field and the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics related to it, the attosecond pulses. Then, he introduced their team’s work progress in the field of atomic and molecular strong field physics, such as atomic and molecular tunneling ionization, molecular Coulomb explosion imaging, etc., focusing on the team’s construction of the first domestic strong field ultra-high vacuum ion-electron momentum imaging spectrometer and ultrafast extreme ultraviolet photoelectron microscope. At the end of the report, Prof. Wu also shared some experimental work progress in solid state strong field physics, such as solid high-order harmonics, etc.
Prof. Wu is a Boya Distinguished Professor at Peking University and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He is mainly engaged in the research of femtosecond strong laser and matter interaction, and has built an advanced ultrafast strong field physics experimental platform, including the first domestic strong field ultra-high vacuum ion-electron momentum imaging spectrometer and ultrafast extreme ultraviolet photoelectron microscope. He has achieved important results in the fields of femtosecond strong laser and gas phase atomic and molecular interaction physics, novel light source generation and application, etc., and published more than 100 SCI papers (including 14 Phys. Rev. Lett.). His research results were selected as one of the “Top Ten Scientific Advances in Chinese Universities”, “Important Achievements in Chinese Optics”, “First Prize of Basic Research in China Optics Science and Technology Award”, “First Prize of Natural Science Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research (Science and Technology) of Higher Education Institutions by Ministry of Education”, etc.
